Breathing Spaces runs at our City Farm Provision and supports young people with diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health issues through 1-1 and small group outdoor practical work following the eco-therapy principals. By engaging in Eco therapy, green exercise and in some cases achieving accreditation in land based studies young people and volunteers have increased their skills, confidence and self-esteem.
Being outdoors and being active has been shown to benefit our mental health. If you are aged 14 to 24 and you are feeling depressed, worried or anxious, experiencing any difficulties such as eating disorders, attachment problems, learning difficulties etc. or suffering stigma or discrimination related to a mental health condition then Eco therapy can reduce your stress and might boost your self-esteem.
Volunteers are still welcome to join the Breathing Spaces Project at PRISM City Farm. Activities will help improve your physical health, benefit the community and develop your skills and social connections.
Recently we have had to run a reduced project following the end of funding. As this work has proved to be incredibly successful both for young people and volunteers, we are actively seeking replacement funding.
